Trying it on for size or Wearing the Uniform of a police officer

As part of the grade 10 careers course (GLC 20H), guest speakers are invited into the class to inform students about their occupationm to discuss the job requirements and to describe the opportunities within their field of work. Here's a look at what happened when Constables Jack and Jaime from the Peel Regional Police Division 12, came into Ms. McCauley's class. Thanks to Nicole for taking these pictures and doing the write-up.

Volunteer students: Nikkki, Jackie, Christos, and Phil were given the opportunity to try on freshly washed uniforms. Though, because of the varying sizes in uniforms some of the volunteers struggled to get their pants to stay up and required some assistance.

Officer Jack demonstrated standard, proper handcuffing techniques on "criminal" Julie charged of being drunk in public. The student cops were given a chance to use the techniques on some of their fellow classmates. After arresting Crystal, Nikkki followed standard procedure by reading Crystal all her rights.

Jack and Jaime also displayed and discussed their safety equipment, such as pepper spray (mace) and a metal baton (Not to be mistaken for a magic wand, thought originally by some).

Though the class had fun and laughed and joked, we were reminded that police work is a serious job and is not all action and fun and games (some times it is six hours of paper work, as stated by Jaime). Being a police officer is an important role within our society, and should always be taken seriously.

Thank you again Jack and Jaime for this wonderful and enlightening experience, it was very much appreciated by all!
Who knows, perhaps you may be seeing some of us in the near future, hopefully working as a fellow officer that is.
