In Ms. Dickinson's Grade 9 classes, the students are working on a Scene Painting Unit with guest artist Frances Key. They are using the poems from Shel Silversteins' Where the Sidewalk Ends as inspiration for the unit. Each student worked in a group of two and got a poem and had to do a vocal presentation of this poem. Next they created a collage of their interpretation of the poem. The best six collages from each grade nine class were selected by the students, who then painted them on 4 by 8 foot canvasses. These painted backgrops will be used as the set for an upcoming presentation of these poems to the JK and SK students at Byngmount Beach on April 14th.  Silverstein's poetry is very funny and copies of his poems are available in the Cawthra library.
