DEAR =
Drop Everything and Read
For the first 15 minutes of each day, everyone in the school will read. So
bring along the book you happen to be reading and enjoy! Looking for a book?
.. then start your day with an early visit (before 8:30) to the library to sign
out a book or pick up an extra newspaper or magazine there. [Please don't
come at 8:30 because we'll be reading too and don't want to be interrupted.]
If you forget to bring reading material, your first period teacher will probably
have a textbook you can read. That should serve as a reminder the rest of the
week.
Book Swap + Sale
- Beginning immediately, bring any book you're finished with to the library.
In exchange for each book, get a "book swap" tag. Beginning on
Mon. Oct. 30, we'll have "Book Swap" tables in front of the library.
Use your tags to acquire gently used books! Swap or sale.
Chapters' Fundraiser
at the Sherway location: On Wed. Nov. 1st from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Friend$ of
Cawthra Park, Inc. will get 15% of the profits from the sale of all regularly-priced
merchandise such as books and CDs. Cawthra musicians will be on hand playing
music to browse by. There will also be a "Staff and Students Wishlist"
table with one copy of various books that Cawthra teachers and students would
like available in the school library. Parents are invited to purchase a book
to donate and to complete a book plate so that future Cawthra readers will know
the family who donated the book. The authors who read to the students
during the week have been invited to attend and to sign their books for you.
Please plan a Nov. 1st shopping trip to the Sherway Chapters-Indigo location.
If you go during the day because it's more convenient than the evening, please
tell the cashier that you want your purchase to support the Cawthra Park fundraiser
and it will! What a great time to pick up some Christmas reading! All profits
raised will be used to support literacy at Cawthra Park S.S.
"Teachers' Picks"
and "Students' Picks" will be displayed at the Chapters'
Fundraiser. Both tables of "picks" will feature one copy of titles
that Cawthra teachers or students would like available in the school library.
Parents, staff and students are invited to purchase a book from one of
the tables to donate. Book plates will be provided so that future Cawthra readers
will know who donated the book to the school library. To suggest a title, please
complete either a Teacher Pick form or a Student Pick form, available at the
Cawthra library circulation desk.
Mystery words
- a contest where one mystery word will be spoken during the announcements and
each homeroom class will have a chance to create a sentence using the word creatively.
The class who submits the best sentence each day wins a class set
of neon orange I rocked at Uro© pencils!

be! Photos will be taken and posted.
Display Cases

Prizes - we
have lots! Join the fun as we celebrate reading! U.R.O.C. is an acronym for
