Monday: Joe Hash, advertisement writer and songwriter visited the school to talk to Grade 11students about writing in the commercial world. Mr. Brinton introduced Joe, who is his son's godfather.

Joe started his writing career working in advertising.

Next he moved into the world of commercials.

He read the mission statement he wrote for Ford, a current client.

Finally, he talked about song-writing.

And played some of them.

He reads at home too, shown here reading to Mr. Brinton's son.

Tuesday: Marnelle Tokio talked to Grade 9 students about her award-winning novel More Than You Can Chew. Ms. Kirby-McIntosh introduced the author.

She met Marnelle a few years ago and suggested her as an author for UROC 2007.

Marnelle talked about the background to her book.

This is a chart of her book and, looking at this, the editor moved Chapter 13 to the beginning of the book.

She read a chapter aloud to the grade 9 students.

Wednesday: For the Grade 12 students, Sam Limberger introduced our next author, Claude Limberger, who just happens to be her Dad. Besides being a Cawthra parent, he is also an author of novels and screen plays, perhaps the best known being Timestopper.

He read from Time Stopper

His son David thanked him after the event.
