We started finished reading Chapter 8 of The Hobbit today -- we also spent a little time with our Reading Program novels..
Homework: Finish your 5-6-7 study sheet. Read chapters 9-10-11 over the weekend.

We started to read Chapter 8 of The Hobbit today -- we'll finish it in class tomorrow. We also completed lessons 34 and 35 of the Language Power workbook.
Homework: Finish your 5-6-7 study sheet for homework. Don't forget your Reading Program novel for tomorrow.

We read Chapter 7 of The Hobbit today. We also spent some time with our Reading Program novels learning a new Reading Strategy called "4-Square Prespective'. Be sure to get the notes if you were away.
Homework: Finish your 5-6-7 study sheet for homework. Don't forget your Language Power workbook for tomorrow.

We started to read Chapter 6 of The Hobbit today. We also completed lessons 32 and 33 in the Language Power workbook.
Homework: Please finish chapter 6 at home tonight. Don't forget your reading program novel tomorrow.

We finished our discussion of Chapter 5 of The Hobbit today.
Homework: Bring your Language Power workbook tomorrow.

We almost finished reading Chapter 5 of The Hobbit today. We also worked on the Reading Program. Today our Reading Program time focussed on the first of six Reading Strategies. You can review the "Strategy 1 - Genre Framework" worksheet under Unit 5 on your Handouts page.
Homework: Finish reading Chapter 5 for homework. We'll begin working on the study sheet together during Monday's class.

We finished reading Chapter 4 of The Hobbit today. We also completed lesson 32 in the Language Power workbook.
Homework: Finish the 2-3-4 study sheet. Bring your Reading Program novel to class tomorrow.

We spent a little bit of time with our new Reading Program novels. We also finished our discussion of chapter 3.
Homework: Finish as much of the 2-3-4 study sheet as you can (based on what we've read so far). Bring your Language Power workbook to class tomorrow.

We finished lesson 30 in Language Power and we read chapter 2 of The Hobbit in class today.
Homework: Read all of chapter 3 and complete as much of the 2-3-4 study sheet as you can (based on what we've read so far). Bring your NEW Reading Program novel to class tomorrow.

We finished reading chapter 1 of The Hobbit in class today. I also gave out the study sheet for chapters 2-4 (replacement copies are available on the Handouts page).
Homework: Finish the chapter 1 study sheet. Bring your Language Power workbook for tomorrow.
Note: Marks have finally been posted for the poetry performances - R&J marks will hopefully be updated by this evening.

Poetry performances today - great work, everyone! I also gave out copies of The Hobbit and we started to read chapter 1 together.
Homework: Try to answer as much of the Chapter 1 study sheet as possible. Don't worry about finishing "Understanding #5" or the "Visualising" questions - we'll work on them together in class on Monday.

Today we started with some Reading Program time. We then continued our study of poetry. Groups are now working on memorising their assigned poems (aim to have your part completely memorised by the time you return to class NEXT Tuesday).
Homework: Write the first draft of your Reading Program assignment - bring it to class for editing on Tuesday. Dress rehearsals for poetry performances will begin on Tuesday - BE SURE you come to class with your lines MEMORISED.

Today we worked on Language Power Lesson 29. We also continued our study of poetry. Groups are now working on memorising their assigned poems (aim to have your part completely memorised by the time you return to class NEXT Tuesday).
Homework: Finish L.P.-Lesson 29 if you didn't finish it in class. Begin to memorise your lines.

Today we studied "The Lady of Shalott" together. Performance groups were selected and poems were assigned.
Homework: Read over the poem you were assigned (extra copies are available on your handouts page under unit 2 if you didn't get a copy today). If you're not satisfied with the poem you were assinged you will have an opportunity to change poems tomorrow.

We began our Poetry - Sound and Meaning unit today by reading "The Highwayman" together. Look over the poems for this unit on your handouts page unit 2 - select 2-3 that you are interested in.

Today we worked in the computer lab publishing the Expository paragraph assignment.
Homework: There is no homework this weekend (except to keep reading your Independent Novel - if you need to).

Everyone wrote the unit test for Romeo & Juliet today.
Homework: Gather your expository paragraph research and compose the first draft of your paragraph. Bring you draft to class tomorrow for editing and publishing.
