Today we talked about the major themes of R&J and we watched the end of the play on DVD.
Homework: Study for Thursday's test. Finish collecting your research to
answer the question: "How do you know that 'Turning Point' occurs in Act 3?".

We finished reading Romeo and Juliet today. Hooray! We'll begin our discussion of theme tomorrow
and also prepare for Thursday's test.
Homework: Keep reading your independent novel. You should aim to be
finished by Wednesday (October 1).

The W.o.O. for the Descriptive Paragraph closed today. We spent the whole class reading
Romeo and Juliet and we managed to get all the way through the end of Act 4!

We finished Lesson 10 in Language Power today. We also read a little bit more of Romeo
& Juliet (up to 3.5.168).
Homework: Hand in your Descriptive Paragraph before the W.o.O. closes

We began today's class with 20 minutes of Reading Program time. At this point you should be
approximately two thirds of the way through your novel (read a bit more at home if you are behind). We
spent a little bit of time making a list of specific things that are appealing about our
individual novels. We also read a little bit more of Romeo & Juliet (up to the end of 3.1.
Homework: Hand in your Descriptive Paragraph before the W.o.O. closes

We began today's class with 30 minutes of Reading Program time. At this point you should be
approximately half-way through your novel (read a bit more at home if you are behind). We
spent a little bit of time making a list of specific things that are appealing about our
individual novels. We worked through the structure of the Descriptive paragraph assignment.
AND we read a little bit more of Romeo & Juliet (up to 3.1.55).
Homework: Bring a typed version of your Descriptive Paragraph to class on
Monday for an editing session.

We almost managed to get to the end of 2.5 during class today. Please finish reading the last
few lines of scene 5 so that we can begin scene 6 together tomorrow. We also worked on
Language Power lessons 5-6.
Homework: Bring your Reading Program novel for
tomorrow AND continue working on your descriptive paragraph.

assignment. we also spent some class time reading our

Everyone recited Romeo's "O she doth teach the torches" monologue
today. We also watched and discussed Baz Luhrman's version of the
play. we also worked on Language Power lesson 4 today.
Homework: Bring your Reading Program novel for
tomorrow AND bring your research (pictures and information) for
your descriptive paragraph as well.

We finished reading Act 1 of Romeo & Juliet today. I also went over the
Descriptive Paragraph assignment (see the 2 sheets on the Handouts
page).
Homework: Finish memorising Romeo's "O she doth teach the
torches to burn bright" (1.5.44-53) speech for Tuesday's class. Don't
forget your Language Power workbook for tomorrow AND finish the
analysis of the descriptive paragraphs we began today and bring them
to class tomorrow.

We continued with our Reading Program assignment today - the rubric
handout was issued today (see the handouts page unit 5 if you lose
yours). We also read up to 1.5.110 today.
Homework: Memorise Romeo's "O she doth teach the
torches to burn bright" (1.5.44-53) speech for Tuesday's class.
Bonus: Do you notice anything special about the way
Romeo's first conversation with Juliet is written. Look carefully!

We finished Lesson 3 of Language Power and we read all of 1.4 in
Romeo & Juliet.
Homework: Don't forget your Reading Program novel for
tomorrow. Finish Language Power Lesson 3 by next Tuesday. Complete
your sketch of Mercutio's Queen Mab speech and bring it back to class
tomorrow.

We watched a film production (Zeffirelli 1968) of Act 1 during class
today. We also continued with our Reading Program.

homophones that have not yet been used on the page. Finish your answer
question 6 on page 46 of the R&J text (you may skip the horoscope
part at the end).

We read the Prologue in Romeo & Juliet and talked about iambic
pentameter.
Homework: Try to write 4 lines of iambic
pentameter with an abab rhyme scheme. Don't forget your 9 dollars

what will happen in act 1 scene 1.
