Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Should I use an MLA Header or an MLA Title Page or BOTH for my assignment?
A: It is always good practice to check with your teacher as to his or her preference when choosing between either a Header or a Title Page (NEVER both). For my classes, unless I instruct otherwise, use the Double-Spaced Header. Personally, I think title pages are a colossal waste of paper (however, not everyone believes as I do, so it's important that you learn both methods of indicating authorship). Here's a handout outlining some basic MLA formatting guidelines for your notebook.
Q: What do Mr. Bowering's editing symbols and markings mean?
A: Most of the feedback you receive on your assignments
will come from the language on your rubric. I will often jot abbreviations
and editing notes on your paper. Most of these markings are acronyms. If you
can't decipher the notes please refer to this document for additional information.
Don't forget to use your Language Power text as a
supplementary resource.
Q: Can I get an extension on my assignments?
A: The summative assessments that you must
complete [see your Overview of Assessments chart] are always due at
the beginning of class on a Tuesday. Everyone automatically gets a
3-day extension to the following Friday. So the answer to this
question is yes AND no.
Assignments are due at the beginning of class on
Tuesday. It is very important that you see me ahead of time if you
are planning to use any extension days to explain your specific
situation (I won't ever deny you the 3-day extension time, I just
need to know). After the first few minutes of class on the Friday
have passed, the Window of Opportunity (W.o.O.) for
you to demonstrate the skills being assessed will have also passed.
